3D printer to create human tissue

A research team at Carnegie Mellon modified a MakerBot 3D-printer to create replicas of soft tissues out of organic materials such as collagen and fibrin, naturally present in the human body. According to the researchers, the forms they have created are impossible to get using traditional fabrication approaches.

Even if these forms are not functioning organs with living cells, the researchers expect that this process will allow one day to repair damaged organs with no need of transplants.
